Welcome to the first in a series of lessons I have taught at Journey Christian Church in Canton, GA on the subject of holiness. Each post consists of an audio recording of the session accompanied by the Bible passages I mention in the teaching and some questions for personal reflection. The recordings are between 25 and 30 minutes. Enjoy!
For your self-study:
Please read:
Hebrews 12:14
1 Peter 1: 14,15
1 Peter 2:9
James 4:4
Leviticus 11:44,45
Leviticus 20:26
Meditate on these passages, journal any insights that jump out at you, and ask the Lord these questions as you bring what you have learned to prayer:
1. Where do I stand in my pursuit of holiness?
2. Do I desire it? If not, deepen my love for Your holiness and my desire for the Holy Spirit to work Your holy nature into my soul to replace my sinful nature.
3. Are there any areas in my life that grieve You? If so, show me what they are so I can bring them to You and invite You to change them so I may please You in all my ways.
I believe that holiness is one of the forgotten subjects in our church culture today. Yet it is one that is dear to God’s heart. As I am posting this, revival movements are breaking out all over Christian campuses in the U.S., starting with Asbury College & Seminary in Wilmore, KY. The mark of a true outpouring of the Holy Spirit as God’s children humble themselves, pray, and seek His face repentantly is the return of a love for holiness – not as a way of life, but because He, the God Who is touching us by the Holy Spirit, is holy. To love Him is to love holiness!
