Last week we paused and remember the sacrifice of Christ for our sins. He bought our holiness with His blood. So, it is fitting that we close this series by looking at the significance of His death, how it was foreshadowed by the sacrifices for sin in the times of the Tabernacle and the Temple, and how it paved the way for us to become a holy dwelling place for God on earth. Listen to the lesson, then let the Scriptures listed below tell the story.
Here are the Bible verses we discussed:
He became the atoning sacrifice once and for all: Hebrews 10:11-14
He was the perfect sacrifice, without sin: 1 John 3:5
He was sacrificed outside the Holy City to bear our sin: Hebrews 13:11,12
Blood and water gushed from His side: John 19:34, 1 John 5:6-8
His blood is the key to our enduring holiness: Hebrews 10:19-22, 1 John 1:7-9
The cross defeated our greatest enemy: Colossians 2:15
We are united with His death on the cross: Romans 6:6-11
Points for reflection:
On the cross, God demonstrated the depth of His love by becoming one of us and subjecting Himself to betrayal, false accusations, torture, humiliation, and an indescribably cruel death – so that we could be cleansed from sin and become His holy habitation instead of the temple.
Whenever you partake of communion, think about the relationship between holiness and
the cross of Christ and revel in the privilege of being God’s temple and the Holy Spirit sanctifying you and doing what you could never do yourself!
